Another option: get a NAS and set it up for redundancy! Although, having done that I still think “what if my house burns down? I need to ship an HDD with a copy of my files to a friend who lives in another country”, which I haven‘t done (yet). 😅
I know I have some photos from middle school sitting in an old hard drive. I’m been meaning to save them to the NAS for a year now but I’m too anxious they might have gotten corrupted already so I put it off.
Redundancy is the trick! For most non-tech nerds setting up a NAS is not trivial (this is the reason I didn't touch on it) but I agree it's an upgrade on top of the tip. Nice one on shipping the HDD somewhere else, just not super sustainable if you have to "sync" new files.

Well, you can ship them a new HDD and they ship you back the old one. 😂 I think it can work. Or if you see each other occasionally, you just exchange HDDs next time you see each other.
